Caring For Your Newfoundland Puppy

So you have finally decided that you are going to get a Newfoundland puppy. This is good news. Now that you have overcome the hurdle of determining what type of puppy to bring home, the next step for you to take is to learn how to care for your Newfoundland puppy, or Newf for short. Newfoundland dogs are known for their friendly nature around kids. They are also known to be lazy at times but one of their trademarks is that they do love the water and can spend hours on end swimming. If you want your Newfoundland puppy to grow up happy, healthy and strong, then here are a few training tips to follow.

The first thing that you ought to do is to give your Newfoundland puppy a vaccination. Consult with your veterinarian on how to prevent any diseases from invading your puppy. When feeding your pet, you need to choose high grade meet to keep it happy. Second, don’t forget to groom your pup especially when it starts to shed. Brush its coat and undercoat at least once every week to minimize shedding. During shedding season, you need to regularly brush your pup’s coat with a wide tooth comb.

Third, it is best that you bathe your dog at least once every three months. Regular bathing can affect the sheen of your pup’s coat which will be harmful to it in the long run. Keep the nails of your dogs paws short because the weight of the Newfoundland dog can be quite painful to it if the nails are too long. Fourth, if you want your Newfoundland puppy to grow up with good behavior, then enroll it in an obedience school early on. You can train your puppy on your own but make sure that you use a soft but firm tone instead of a harsh one.

Fifth, make sure that your Newfoundland puppy has plenty of exercise. If you can let it go swimming then it would be better because this is one of the things that it loves. Keeping these things in mind when you have a Newfoundland puppy around will help you care for your pet just the way you ought to care for it. For sure, you will have a very good relationship with your puppy. So learn all there is to know about Newfoundland puppy to be able to provide it with everything it needs.
